There is no single price. File conversion APIs bill by conversion, by conversion-minute, by credit, or as a document toolkit with conversion attached. At 10,000 conversions a month the public numbers run from about $30 (Converterer) to $175 (ConvertAPI Growth) to roughly $80–90 (CloudConvert, if each job is one credit) to $299 (Zamzar Scale). If you need OCR, merge, or a BAA, the cheaper row is the wrong product.

The four billing models
Flat per conversion. One file in, one file out, one unit. This is how Converterer bills. Volume is predictable: a 2-page docx and a 200-page docx cost the same, and you can put next month’s bill in a spreadsheet before you run it.
Conversion minutes or credits. CloudConvert and the Convertio API bill by processing time. Office and PDF conversions often cost 2–4 credits each; a long video costs more than a thumbnail. Fine if you are building a pipeline. Hard to quote in a spreadsheet.
Credit packs with extra-credit formats. Zamzar sells monthly credit allowances, and some heavy formats consume more than one credit. Entry looks cheap ($25 for 500 credits) until 10,000 a month is $299.
Toolkit plus conversion. ConvertAPI sells a document toolkit: official SDKs, OCR, merge, watermark, redact, ISO 27001 and HIPAA, with conversion as one operation among many. Monthly USD: $35 / $95 / $175 / $350. Their pricing page localizes the currency to your location (AUD in Australia, USD in the US); the figures here are USD so they sit next to everyone else’s.
One boundary note: Convertio and FreeConvert are mostly browser products with an API bolted on. This page is about the API.

The caveats that make these numbers honest: ConvertAPI localizes currency by visitor location, so check their page shows USD before comparing. CloudConvert meters conversion minutes, not files, and sets exact prices in a slider, so its column assumes one job equals one sub-minute credit and stays approximate. Zamzar charges extra credits for some heavy formats. Converterer is USD, 1 GB per file on every plan, and one conversion is always one unit.
Convertio and FreeConvert are not columns here: Convertio’s API is prepaid at $0.10 per conversion minute (roughly $1,000 at 10,000 jobs, covered on the Convertio page), and FreeConvert is a browser suite first.

When the cheaper row is the wrong product
- You need OCR, merge, split, watermark, redact, or templates in the same vendor. ConvertAPI.
- You are building a job graph (import, convert, watermark, thumbnail, multi-export). CloudConvert.
- You need published SLAs, a custom conversion type, or the Zamzar brand. Zamzar.
- You convert in a browser and want OCR or rare pairs. Convertio.
If the job is file in, file out, inside a product, the flat row is the one that quotes.
